Dental Crowns
With cutting-edge 3D imaging technology, you’ll have your crown in about half the time, and without the discomfort of traditional impressions.
Keep your beautiful smile going.
Crowns are restorations designed to cover teeth that are at risk of breaking or are too damaged for a standard filling. Our team uses cutting-edge 3D imaging technology to create crowns without the discomfort of traditional impressions. Made from high-quality porcelain by skilled ceramists, these crowns ensure that your smile remains intact for years.
Who should have a dental crown?
Crowns serve as full-coverage restorations that can protect a tooth that is likely to break or is too compromised for regular filling methods. They are perfect for people who’ve had root canal therapy, grind their teeth, or have fractures that make a tooth vulnerable to breaking under everyday pressure.
Strengthening a heavily treated tooth to safeguard against future fractures
Restoring tooth structure lost to grinding
Enhancing the visual appeal of the tooth
Alleviating pain caused by damage or fractures
What to expect:
Two appointments are required for us to create the crown and place it. During the first appointment we will provide local anesthesia for the affected tooth. After carefully assessing the tooth’s shape, a 3D scan or impression will be made. This will enable the lab ceramist to craft a crown that mimics the look and feel of your natural tooth.
A temporary crown will be made, polished, and placed to protect your tooth while the lab makes the permanent crown. For the next two weeks, avoid sticky foods near the treated area to keep the temporary crown secure. If it comes loose, try to reposition it as soon as possible, and visit our North Asheville office if you need assistance.
During your second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed, and the final porcelain crown will be fitted and checked for quality. A dental x-ray will be taken to confirm a proper fit and aesthetic alignment. We will apply adhesive, then place cement inside the porcelain crown, removing any excess. You will receive detailed instructions on how to care for your new crown.

Sticky and chewy foods: These can stick to your crown and pull it out, including caramel, taffy, and gum.
Tough meats: You should be careful when eating tough meats, especially if they require a lot of chewing.
Ice: Ice is too hard for your crown and can cause sensitivity.
Extremely hot or cold foods: Your teeth may be more sensitive after getting a crown, so you should avoid these foods.
Sugary foods: Sugar can cause decay around or beneath your crown.
Carbonated drinks: These drinks can create an acidic environment that can lead to tooth decay.
